Psalm 14 - The LORD is with His people

Dear Friends

As part of my own reading of God’s word each day, I begin with a psalm, going through a chapter a day. Today’s happened to be Psalm 114.
As I read, it struck me how this follows on from our time together yesterday at the burning bush, and with the verse I ended my last email to you with “But I will be with you” Exodus 3:12. At the burning bush the Lord called Moses to lead his people out of Egypt.

Ps114
When Israel went out from Egypt,
the house of Jacob from a people of strange language,
2 Judah became his sanctuary,
    Israel his dominion.

3 The sea looked and fled;
    Jordan turned back.
4 The mountains skipped like rams,
    the hills like lambs.

5 What ails you, O sea, that you flee?
O Jordan, that you turn back?
6 O mountains, that you skip like rams?
    O hills, like lambs?

7 Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord,
at the presence of the God of Jacob,
8 who turns the rock into a pool of water,
the flint into a spring of water.

The Lord was with his people when they went out of Egypt. In fact his sanctuary, his dominion was with his people. He dwelt with them. His Presence went with them - “My Presence will go with you”. And because of that the whole earth trembled at the presence of the Lord with his people (v7): The sea parted, so did the river Jordan, the mountains quaked when God gave his law on Sinai (remember that place?).  He was in the midst of his people back then as a flaming pillar of fire by night and cloud by day. The tabernacle dwelt in the midst of the camp. So he was with them.

The Lord, the great I AM, is still with his people. Yet he is with us now in a far better way. He is with us, we are his dominion, his sanctuary but he is far closer to us. In fact as believers we can all say ”Christ in you, the hope of glory”Col1:27. God is with us now because Christ is in you. You have the hope of glory. If Christ is present in you then nothing in this whole world can touch this or change this. Let that truth settle you today - You have Christ in you.

With love in our Lord Jesus
Dave
